We are pleased to announce that our very own Managing Director, Michael Garvey has been appointed by Veterinary Landlords Association (VLA) as National Property Coordinator. In this role, Michael will assist members of the VLA through the intricacies of rent reviews and lease renewals, ensuring a thorough understanding of the processes.
With over 35 years in the commercial property sector, Michael is a Fellow of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Additionally, he is an RICS Registered Valuer. Michael’s experience, particularly in rent reviews and lease renewals, along with his familiarity with the veterinary sector, makes him a valuable asset to members of the Veterinary Landlords Association.
The Veterinary Landlords Association launched in June 2023 and was created to represent the interests of people who lease property to veterinary practices. The aim of the VLA is to level the playing field for small landlords when dealing with large corporate groups, striving for improved outcomes for landlords and tenants within the veterinary sector.
The goal is to simplify negotiations by offering landlords realistic expectations, supported by substantial evidence, in rent reviews and lease renewals. This initiative seeks to reduce the time and costs involved in negotiations for both corporate tenants and landlords.
As Richard Hillman, one of the VLA’s founders, said:
“Negotiating with large corporate groups can sometimes feel like trying to run through treacle for small landlords.
“Having an acknowledged expert on our team should help the VLA to give much needed support to our members.”
