Michael Garvey

Managing Director

Michael Garvey joined the firm in 2004 as a Director. He was previously a Partner with Hicks Baker in Reading and prior to that a Director with Rogers Chapman in Bracknell. He has worked in the Greater Thames Valley region since the late 1980’s.

Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation. He is an Arbitrator and receives appointments from the RICS to resolve rent review and lease renewal disputes. He is also a RICS Registered Valuer.

Michael has a high level of expert witness experience, writing expert reports of a range of matters and has appeared in the High Court and at various planning Inquiries. Other areas of expertise include valuation, development consultancy and sales and letting advice.

In recent years Michael has undertaken a lot of acquisition work for occupiers across a range of property sectors and has been able to use the skills acquired over many years to assist companies with relocation or with opening new ventures.

He is a regular contributor to the national and regional property press and a conference and business speaker, at venues including the Houses of Parliament and the European Parliament in Brussels.

Michael has worked for a wide range of clients across all the agency and professional disciplines, including Standard Life, AXA REIM, Scottish Life, Columbia Threadneedle, LaSalle Investment Management, Legal & General, Norwich Union, Prudential Property Investment Managers, SEGRO, Morley Fund Managers, Foreign & Colonial, CitiBank, GE Healthcare, Game, Energis, British Airways, Nokia, BASF, ASDA Stores, Citizen Watch, Logica, Customs and Excise, The Employment Service and DfEE.

Business Groups

Michael plays an active role in the business community. He is Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Buckinghamshire Business First, a Board Member of the Buckinghamshire (Thames Valley) Local Enterprise Partnership, A Director of Buckinghamshire Advantage, Joint Chair of the Connected Counties broadband delivery board and sits on various committees related to infrastructure in Buckinghamshire.

Michael undertakes pro bono work for a number of charities.

Outside Interests

Michael is passionate about road cycling and is a member of High Wycombe Cycling Club. Chandler Garvey is one of the commercial sponsors.

Joanna Kearvell

Director - Head of Agency

Expertise and Experience

Joanna Kearvell has 16 years experience in the commercial property sector.  Jo heads up the Agency team in Aylesbury and Amersham dealing with lettings and sales for a wide range of clients including private individuals and pension funds.

Jo is also part of the Occupier Services Division and her experience and attention to detail will be essential in advising occupiers about their commercial premises. Jo has recently been working with occupiers through a series of workshops in association with Buckinghamshire Business First.

Qualifications

BA (Hons) degree at the University of Plymouth in International Business and French which included a year working for Alcatel in North West France.

Outside Interests

Jo enjoys watching sport including football, formula 1 and tennis although most of her time is spent running around after her children! She also enjoys baking cakes and watching Strictly Come Dancing.

Alan Chandler

Property Consultant

Expertise and Experience

Alan has lived or worked in Buckinghamshire for over 60 years and for over 40 years, has had experience in the commercial property sector, including developments, investments and portfolio management.  Alan worked for Estate Agents, Pretty & Ellis in Chesham in the 1970’s, them went onto London where he gained valuable experience with the British Rail Property Board, where he was involved in all types of scenarios, including sales, rent reviews, land survey and draughtsmanship.

Alan effectively left employment at the age of 28 and took up full time education at Thames Polytechnic (now the University of Greenwich).

In 1987 he worked for Grant and Partners in Mayfair, then onto Hogg Robinson (formerly Howard, Son & Gooch) in Maidenhead.  A 2-year term at Raffety Buckland in High Wycombe was followed by a move “next door” to Stupples & Co.

Alan has been involved with many schemes in the South Bucks, South Oxfordshire and Thames Valley area including Anglo Business Park, Amersham, Bell Lane Office Village, Chiltern Court, Chiltern Commerce Centre, Amersham Commercial Park, Corinium Industrial Estate, Stones Courtyard, Chesham, Anglo Business Park Chesham, Anglo Business Park, Aylesbury, OYO Thame, and many more.

Qualifications

2.1 Honors Degree in Estate Management at Greenwich University, graduating in 1986.  Elected to a Professional Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in March 1989.

Business Groups

Alan has been involved in the Lions Organisation for many years and is a former Member and President of the Great Missenden and Prestwood Lions Club and the Thame and District Lions Club.  Sadly, both these Clubs have now folded.

Alan has been a Committee Member of the Five Counties Conference held at the Wycombe Swan Theatre for many years.  And is a former fundraiser and Trustee of South Bucks Hospice.

Outside Interests

A father of four, Alan is a keen sports fan, and watches a great deal of football and rugby union.  In particular Alan enjoys watching Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium and keeps fit by swimming 3 or 4 times a week, cycling and walking during the weekend through the Chiltern Hills, London and beyond.

Karen King

Operations Manager

Karen joined Chandler Garvey in 2021 and is our Operations Manager in the High Wycombe office. Since coming on board, she’s worked with both the Property Management and Agency Teams, picking up valuable insights and experience from each department.

As Operations Manager, Karen handles a variety of tasks, including planning and managing operations, improving processes, team management, HR duties, ensuring compliance and managing risks, overseeing projects, and driving our marketing efforts.

Outside the office, Karen loves exploring the local area on walks, staying fit by training at the gym, and indulging her creative side through painting and drawing.

Judy Lee

Agency Support

Judy has been with Chandler Garvey for 7 years and brings with her a wealth of experience in administration and the property industry.  Judy plays a vital role is supporting the Agency Team and her responsibilities include maintaining property and applicant databases, ensuring accurate advertising of available properties across different platforms, and handling applicant inquiries efficiently.

Additionally, Judy is crucial to ensuring our compliance with Money Laundering Regulations by conducting Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Checks and Identity Checks on all sides of a transaction.

Outside of work Judy is a keen gardener; she also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and loves to walk in the local countryside.
